Usually on this blog we try to refrain from talking about how great Outschool is, but we wanted to make a rare exception this week to touch on some of the often forgotten benefits of online education, both in terms of monetary cost, and the time saving cost.
To do this, I decided to compare a few different extra-curricular education options in Australia to see how much they cost, what’s involved in taking a class, and how they might impact a regular day for a busy Mum or Dad.
So without further ado, let’s get into it with the following scenario...
You’re an Australian Mum living in Brisbane, and you’ve got a 10 year old interested in Painting. You don’t really know much about painting, but you’d like to encourage your child to explore their interest more, ideally with some help from a skilled and passionate teacher with lots of expertise.
So what do you do?
Well here are the options as I see them…
Option #1: Sign Up For An In Person Lesson in Brisbane
Your Time:
- Searching online for local classes that are reputable: 2 Hours
- Calling to make a booking (and hoping there's availability!): 10 Mins
- Driving your child to the class: 20 Mins
- Waiting for them to finish the class: 1 Hour
- Driving back home from the class: 20 Mins
Total time: 3 hours, 50 mins
The Cost
- $50 AUD per class
- $10 AUD fuel per class
Option #2: Sign Up For Painting Lessons With Another Online Provider
Your Time:
- Scouring the internet for reputable options that won’t break the bank: 2 Hours
- Investigating whether the provider is trustworthy and the teachers are safe: 1 Hour
- Figuring out the Booking process for the class: 30 mins
Total time: 3 hours, 30 mins
The Cost
- $45 AUD per class
Option #3: Sign Up For An Outschool Painting Class
Your Time:
- Searching on Outschool to find a class, then booking it: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
(Plus an hour of time that your child is kept busy, and you’re free to have a break!)
The Cost
- $25 AUD per class
Now we may be a little biased when it comes to making the final decision, but it seems like a fairly easy one!
